Multi-Family Development

Goal: Double the number of projects from 2 to 4 in 24 months

Boodry PlaceIn Central Appalachia, there is a wealth of social service providers supporting special populations: clients with special needs, the elderly, chronically homeless, and people living in economically distressed areas of Appalachia.  Unfortunately, these providers and their clients typically cannot benefit from housing programs. The lack of local property development and management capacity in rural communities creates an obstacle to using traditional housing programs, as does the program complexity.

That’s where FAHE’s Berea Performance Compacts come in.

FAHE Members’ intimate knowledge of local housing needs means projects are developed to meet specific demand and occupied quickly. Our Members participate in a full spectrum of affordable housing activities, from building homeless shelters to developing rental housing, to counseling families. Because FAHE’s Members offer such varied and extensive services, social service providers that do not typically engage in housing activities are able to better serve their clients by partnering with FAHE. So far, two projects has been completed through this compact, which is lead by Community Housing Partners.

Community Housing Partners, based in Christiansburg, Virginia, is a community development group that specializes in sustainable development, architectural design, and construction. Additionally, they manage thousands of rental properties in the southeast, include some of those developed through the compact.
